A Girl Missing

(Yokogao, よこがお)

The career and reputation Ichiko (TSUTSUI Mariko) has forged for herself while working long-term as a private nurse for the elderly matriarch of the Ohishi family hangs in the balance when one of the adolescent Ohishi daughters disappears. Inadvertently caught up in the ensuing criminal case, Ichiko’s ordered life plunges into chaos as the relationship with the family she has grown close to over the years is thrown into question.

Following the international acclaim of his Harmonium (awarded the Prix du Jury in the Un Certain Regard category at Cannes), FUKADA returns to the director’s chair with this suspenseful drama, artfully tightening the tension with each jump of the story’s chronology and with each layer of revelation peeled back, depicting the despair and hopes of a woman unjustly implicated in an unpredictable series of events.
